A transducer cover is useful only when the model, fit and timing are right. Before towing or storing a boat with a Garmin GT56UHD, take one minute to check the cover, nearby hardware and the final travel position.

1. Confirm the exact transducer

This guide is for the Garmin GT56UHD and the matching Sonar Shield neoprene travel cover. Model names that look similar do not guarantee the same dimensions. Read the label and current product page before fitting the cover; never force a cover onto another transducer.

2. Inspect before you cover

Look at the transducer, cable and inside of the cover. Stop if you find a cut, torn seam, trapped grit, loose mount or damaged cable. Clean and dry the equipment using the manufacturer’s instructions before storage.

3. Check the fit and clearance

Seat the cover fully over the GT56UHD. Make sure the fabric is not pinched against a bracket or sharp edge and that nearby hardware cannot rub it during transport. The cover should protect the transducer without becoming a substitute for securing the mount, cable or boat equipment.

4. Check the entire travel position

With the transducer and mount stowed according to their instructions, look at the whole assembly. Confirm the cable has normal clearance, the cover is secure and nothing will contact the transducer during trailering or storage. Repeat the check after any mount or routing change.

5. Remove it before sonar use

Sonar Shield’s product-safety guidance classifies this as a transport and storage cover. Remove it before deploying or operating the transducer. Put it in a clean, dry location so it is ready for the trip home.
